Halloween!

This is it. The scariest day(or night) of the year.

The night where we get to see pumpkins there are not to be eaten, but scare us. The night where spooky individuals with a huge variety of clothing, from Dracula to the Jonas Brothers appear at our front door, muttering words like "Trick or Treat".

Ok. So we don't celebrate it.

And that's a real shame, seeing all the things we miss. The parties, the costumes, and most importantly, the candy. Now that's important.

Sigh. But at the same time, there is something we should all do: Make sure Halloween stays scary.

Don't understand? Halloween is deteriorating into cuteness! Just look at the Halloween costumes nowadays. Seriously, Miley Cyrus?? Come on!

Although cuteness is to be cherished, there are times that it should not exist. Like tonight.

I don't want to leave on a bad note, so...

P.S. : Instead of paint ball, maybe we should go pumpkin-shooting. Anyone?

The MiniSketch Saga

The day(or night, to be more specific) I've been waiting for: Debate and MiniSketch are over, I can get a bit of a  much-deserved rest.

How did we do? Debate: Going to final. MiniSketch... er, umm, ah, eh... We lost.

Yes, we failed.

I can choose to lay the blame on Qi Xuan for not narrating smoothly enough. I can blame Zhuhan for forgetting his lines. I can blame everyone else for not arranging the tables and chairs properly and quickly. I could blame the school authorities for setting the date so early after exam.

Actually I still blame the school authorities.

But the person to be blamed is me.

Reason 1: I wrote a script that even I feel is not interesting enough and too long.

Reason 2: I did not practise before exam, which would have made us much more familiar. (But I didn't because I did not want my team members' studies to be interrupted.)

Reason 3: I was slow in delivering the script.

Then again, it was a great experience. We got to watch 4 other great and humorous performances(Yan Ke's rapping will be one of my lifetime memories). We learned more about how to perform during this kind of competition. God I must sound like I'm writing an essay on "The Benefits of Entering MiniSketch".

Yes, we might have failed. But it was fun, it was grand.

It was worth it.

My Campaign Against Exams

When this post is up, our Form 3 "brothers and sisters" will have gone through their first day of PMR exams.

During this time, our cabinet ministers, Education Ministry folk and other "very important people" will be herded around tables, arguing discussing whether PMR should be held next year. Oh, and UPSR too.

Do I think they should be held? No. I don't want to write a long article jumbled with words about the various points to WHY it shouldn't be held because most people will fall asleep half way through. Instead, I will simply say this: Do we really want us to be exam-orientated robots? Who only care about the highest marks? Who don't know about anything other than what's written in our textbooks?

Didn't think so!

However, there is an even better argument for my campaign against exams.

The Suburban K.I.D. (don't forget, that's the name of the blog you are reading!)Blog Committee has done a little research and found that an average tree would produce 80,500 sheets of paper(http://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/green-science/question16.htm). Taking an average of 5 sheets per exam, one form uses 163,800 sheets of paper(including all subjects) in a year.

I know what you are thinking: 2 trees, so what? Ah, but I have not included the other types of paper used, e.g. test pad. And remember, this is only ONE form. If I had tried to include everything(which I can't, I don't have enough data), the figure would definitely be much higher.

So there you have it: Stop Exams to Help Save Trees. And demand that our teachers stop asking us to help to conserve the environment unless this act of cutting down trees to make exam paper is stopped.

The Suburban K.I.D. Blog Committee would like to wish all Form 3 pupils good luck in sitting for PMR.

Blog Admin(Terence): Special shoutout to Jiawin Ng who will be leaving for Singapore soon to congratulate him for getting the Asean Scolarship. Your friends in Form 2, including this writer, will miss you.
